Pilot Chuck Yeager is the man. Imagine punching in for work only to break the sound barrier in no less than a experimental craft. I don't know about you but when I push the outer envelope the severest injury I might occur is a paper cut!!

Bell X-1 Rocket Research Plane
Piloted by Brig. Gen. Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager, USAF (Ret)
On 14 October 1947 General (then Captain) Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager became the first person to fly faster then the speed of sound. At 10:30 AM on that fall morning Chuck piloted the X-1 to a speed of Mach 1.06 or 700 mph @ 43,000 feet above the high desert of California over Muroc Air Base (now Edwards AFB). In doing so this he ushered in a new era, the Space Age.

Famed as General "Chuck" Yeager's "Glamorous Glennis", accelerates toward Mach 1 on its epic flight. The aircraft's conical nose, modeled on the lines of a .50 caliber bullet, and the shock diamonds from its exhaust trail, can easily be seen.
